Pinecliff Road, Chappaqua, Westchester County, NY
7 acres

From Chappaqua, Route 120, exit from Saw Mill River Parkway, take Route 120 (Quaker Street) north, away from Chappaqua, to 4th right hand road which is marked "Pinecliff Road, Ridge Drive, Williams Lane". Continue straight down Pinecliff Road until it ends at sanctuary entrance. Park in front of sanctuary being careful not to block parking lot entrance or nearby residential driveways.

The sanctuary  was donated by the Stern and Arleo families to the New Castle Land Conservancy in 1969 which merged with the Saw Mill River Audubon Society in 1975.

Red maple swamp and small open marsh surrounded by upland deciduous woodland.

Wheelchair accessible parking area and 1/4 mile boardwalk loop with illustrated trail signs.

The unmarked Entrance Path leads between two ponds, one open and one almost a swamp with many trees.  The open pond supports a wide variety of water life including many species of frogs, toads, & salamanders.

The Ridge Walk, marked with white and formerly the red trail, winds over and around the small hills & hollows in the sanctuary and just over its border on the Saw Mill River Parkway land.  There is a handsome rock formation at the top of northern most hill made up of gneiss rock, folded and squished together.

The Swamp Loop, marked with yellow and formerly the blue trail, continues on the edge of the swamp from the entrance path and also ascends the small hillsides bordering the sanctuary offering a good view down inside the swamp.  This trail also offers access to the Ridge Trail that runs along the parkway land for about a mile to Roaring Brook Road. Spring flowers such as ginger, blue cohosh and trillium are seen along this trail.
