South of Merrick Rd. (off Wantagh Pkwy.) Wantagh

Wantagh Park has a wide range of attractions which are open seasonally and throughout the year. The swimming complex features three pools — Olympic, diving and "kiddie." Available court games include bocci and horseshoe. A boating marina and a launch ramp which require a fee and a permit obtainable at the Park Administration Office, are available to county residents. Beyond the marina is a fishing pier, open year-round weather permitting. Athletic fields include three baseball, two softball, some of which are illuminated for night play, and all of which require a permit. Fields are also available for football.

There is a quiet game area with chess and checker tables, a senior citizen gazebo, a north (unreserved) family picnic area, a sheltered picnic area (private permit) and the three central and three south picnic areas, for which a fee is charged; a required advance reservation may be obtained at the Park Administration Office. A new playground equipped with swings, slides, a maze, and a two-mile measured jogging course round out the offerings at this facility. Adjacent to Wantagh Park, north of Merrick Road, is a 54-acre natural area that includes a large pond frequented by large numbers of native waterfowl and nature trails that wind through a wet woodland dominated by red maple, coast pepperbush and skunk cabbage.
