Take the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge to Staten Island. Get off at Bay Street exit. Travel along School Road and turn right on Bay Street. Parking for the fort grounds is at the end of Bay Street.

Visitor Center: Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(Summer hours: Wednesday & Thursday-- 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

                          Friday, Saturday & Sunday-- 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fort Wadsworth is one of the oldest military installations in the United States. First used during the Revolutionary War, the fort was a key component of the New York Harbor defense system until the early 1960's. The site was closed by the military in 1994.

Visitors who wish to explore the site can view exhibits and an introductory video in the visitor center, then walk along a 1.5 mile trail that introduces the major fortifications of the site.

The Fort Wadsworth Visitor Center is open to the general public on the following days:

The Verrazano-Narrows Bridges goes over Fort Wadsworth. It was constructed in 1964.
