Sussex County, NJ
There are two places to park: at the AT parking lot on Route 94 or at the Wallkill River N.R.A.
Pochuck Mountain lies between two valleys: the Wallkill River Valley is on the west and the Vernon Valley (home of Pochuck and Wawayanda Creeks) is on the east.
The name Pochuck means in Putschek, "out-of-the-way Place."
The Appalachian Trail goes over this mountain.
On the AT, you approach Pochuck Mountain from the Wallkill River N.W.R. In Orange County, NY, you walk on Oil City Road for a short space. Climbing Pochuck Mountain you ascend on switchbacks. There is a western ridge, a middle ridge, and eastern ridge.
