POCHUCK MOUNTAIN

Directions:
There are two places to park: at the AT parking lot on Route 94 or at the Wallkill River N.R.A.
Geology:
Pochuck Mountain lies between two valleys: the Wallkill River Valley is on the west and the Vernon Valley (home of Pochuck and Wawayanda Creeks) is on the east.
The name Pochuck means in Putschek, "out-of-the-way Place."
Trails:
The Appalachian Trail goes over this mountain.
On the AT, you approach Pochuck Mountain from the Wallkill River N.W.R. In Orange County, NY, you walk on Oil City Road for a short space. Climbing Pochuck Mountain you ascend on switchbacks. There is a western ridge, a middle ridge, and eastern ridge.
