May 17, 1975.

Torrey members, their family and friends, gathered together on a gloriously sunny and warm day, in marked contrast to our rainy Cunningham Park "dogwood walks" of recent years. True to form, the abundant dogwoods (Cornus florida) were in full bloom, their white branches dazzling in the sun. In the course of our inspection of flora of the kettle ponds and hills, we found in flower:

Anemone thalictroides (rue anemone)
Aralia nudicaulis (wild sarsaparilla)
Arisaema triphyllum (jack in the pulpit)
Barbarea vulgaris (common wintercress)
Cercis canadensis (redbud) cultivated
Fragaria virginiana (common strawberry)
Geranium maculatum (wild geranium)
Hypoxis hirsuta (yellow star grass)
Polygonatum pubescens (hairy true Solomon's seal)
Potentilla simplex (common cinquefoil)
Ranunculus abortivus (kidney-leaved crowfoot) abundant near a kettle pond
Ranunculus hispidus (hispid buttercup)
Rhodotypos scandens (jetbead) an exotic well-established in the vegetation
Uvularia sessilifolia (sessile-leaved bellwort)
Viola sororia (wooly blue violet)

Not yet flower, but in bud, were:
Osmorhiza (sweet cicely sp.)
Smilacina racemosa (false Solomon's seal)

We also identified the following ferns:
Athyrium filix-femina (lady fern)
Dennstaedtia punctilobula (hay-scented fern)
Onoclea sensibilis (sensitive fern)
Osmunda cinnamomea (cinnamon fern)
Osmunda claytoniana (interrupted fern)
Thelypteris hexagonoptera (southern beech fern)

The pink Silene carolina could not be found in its only location, on the slope of a kettle pond.

Attendance was 31. Leader, Uldis Roze.
