HARDSCRABBLE

Dogwood Lane, Westchester County, NY

Directions:

Saw Mill River Parkway north and get off at the Hawthorne exit; turn left at the light and keep going straight and get off at the exit for Pleasantville Road; turn right and go 0.5 of a mile (passing under the Taconic Parkway, which also has an exit for Pleasantville Road) and turn left onto Dogwood Lane; travel 0.2 of a mile to the end of Dogwood Lane and park.

Habitats:

Rocky, hilly territory with some streams surrounded by skunk cabbage, and an ephemeral pond.

Trails:

You can take the white trail in a clockwise circle. It is 1.5 miles long. At the power cut you can take the short red trail extension to make a little longer walk and near your return take the short blue trail for another extension of the walk.

Start off at the Dogwood Trail. I then took the white trail turning left along a stream in front of a rocky hill.
