Moreehouse Farmstead Open Space Area
Acquired:  2000
Acreage:  29.74 acres
Uses:  passive recreation and open space
Access:  West side of Redding Road adjacent to Merritt Parkway

Directions:

Merritt Parkway north to exit 44; turn right onto Congress Street; head past Burr Street and Hillside Road to make a left turn onto Cross Highway; at the T-intersection, turn right onto Redding Road.  The property is located on the right (west) side of the road, about a 100 yards down Redding Road, just south of house number 1818.

Trails:

11/14/2005.  The property is located about 150 yards south of the bridge over the Merritt Parkway.  We parked at a pull-off along the road near the entrance sign.  We started heading generally northwest on (probably) an old road; off to the left we saw and then examined what we think are basement ruins.  The trail did not head very far before it ended so we went off trail west parallel to a stone wall through the middle of the property; we could see a hemlock grove just beyond the stone wall on the western stone wall boundary; turned away from the boundary wall to head back towards the entranceway; we make a little detour right to a swampy area on the south side of the property; picked up a few wetland species for the plant list.  From here we headed out to Redding Road and then turned left to head the short distance back to the car.  Dr. Patrick L. Coney.
